AMONG ED

I just finished watching “Bottom Line” on ABS-CBN and the guest was Governor Ed Panlilio of Pampanga. I must admit, I never liked the person. Probably because I didn’t bother knowing him through readings and the media. And now that I got to hear him speak for a few minutes and answer difficult questions being thrown at him by Boy Abunda, I guess somehow I was able to comprehend a portion of him.
After the show I realized that:
- He always beats around the bush. From what I hear, there were questions that he wasn’t able to answer clearly. One of which is when he was asked if he has a woman and a child. He kept on saying that he had a girlfriend in the past. But when asked about having a child, he just said that “Madami na naglalabasan na ganyan. Sabi ko nga, prove it to me.. blah blah blah” that guests were starting to get impatient in waiting for unambiguous answers.
- He is still HUMAN. He’s not sure whether he has a child or not. By that he implied that he committed premarital sex. Something that the church condemns.
- He is an ambitious person. When he went out of priesthood, he promised to just finish a term of governance and he’ll be back to being a priest. But now, he wants more. He even wants to run for the presidency.
- He has unhealthy relationship with majority of his constituents/Sanggunian. He only has 1 Mayor friend.
- He is still a PRIEST by heart. He admits his mistakes and doesn’t lie. There were questions that might deprave his image but he opted to tell nothing but the truth. Another thing that makes him a priest is his opposition to birth control methods. Something that the Catholic Church has been refusing to accept.
- He is not perfect. Cliche, indeed, but nobody’s perfect, after all. But some people say, 2.5 years is not enough for Among Ed to establish his worth. Probably, he still needs another chance to prove himself.
- He is really a PRIEST, not a POLITICIAN. Being a politician doesn’t mean you will only use your heart. Knowledge about the law, public administration and governance must also be in attendance.
Among Ed has a lot of strong points and shortcomings as a public servant but I can no longer enumerate them all as my chinky eyes are slowly closing already..
So I’m gonna end this post with my own conclusion.
My bottomline is: The church and the government are two separate institutions, thus, each of them has distinct characteristic, duties and responsibilities that must not be expected of the other.
Since Among Ed already chose to be part of the filthy world of politics, he should not go back to priesthood, even if he’d be permitted by the Archbishop or the Pope.
Just my opinion. Goodnight, people.. errrr.. Good morning.
