PALM BEACH

Posted by AC on Wednesday Apr 14, 2010

It’s my first summer with my current company and I was very excited to go on an outing with my colleagues. So when one of them asked if we want to go out of town (beach, of course), I immediately said yes. Aside from being my first summer with them, it’s a fact that I love going to the beach. And so, our trip was planned.

When we were brainstorming about our destination, I suggested Acuatico in San Juan, Batangas. I saw my friend’s photos when she went there and the place is really gorgeous especially their infinity pool. My colleagues also fell in love at the sight of Acuatico. Unfortunately, the resort was fully booked. Perhaps, because our planned date was a holiday. Sigh.

We really wanted to go to a resort with a tranquil environment, not those resorts in Batangas where all you can see is flocks of people swimming and dirt floating. Talk about dagat ng basura. I really believe that San Juan is the nicest spot in Batangas. I know most of you won’t argue with me on this. So we went on finding a nice resort in San Juan for our outing until one of my colleagues suggested Palm Beach Resort.

Upon seeing the pictures online, we immediately decided to reserve some rooms there. Like I said, the date of our outing was a holiday so most of the resorts were fully booked. So, after talking to the representatives of the resort over the phone, we decided to get 2 rooms. 1 for the girls and 1 for the boys. We were required to deposit PHP4,500 as our reservation fee for the rooms.

We left Manila on April 9 at around 8 in the morning (we were supposed to leave by 6am but latecomers rock!!! ). We arrived at San Juan proper before 12 noon then headed off immediately to the beach resorts area. Palm Beach Resort is located right after La Luz Beach Resort, one of those well-known resorts in San Juan. Our travel to Palm Beach was terrible. Apart from being too steep, the road was under construction. On our way up, there were 2 cars ahead of us that stopped without even warning us, thus, caused our van to move downhill a bit.

Traffic

Then the 1st car (a Civic) decided to just go back to where it came from and no longer pursue going to Palm Beach (or wherever it was heading). Our vehicle was in a delicate position so we just got off and started walking. It was a tiring, filthy way to start our Laiya experience.

Nakuha pa nila magpose

Ang init

Nakuha pa nya talaga magsmile

After a long walk, we stopped by the entrance of the resort. We were told by the staff to wait coz the resort’s service shall pick us up and bring us to the resort proper (we had to alight the van coz the road, again, was too sheer and narrow, might be dangerous for all of us)

Madulas sya pramis hirap maglakad pababa

Directions

After a grueling travel and upon seeing the resort, I began to feel good. The place is almost an eye candy (I can’t say that Palm Beach is magnificent coz I kept on thinking about Acuatico.. hahaha..)

Ang cabana at ang group picture

View from our terrace

Tambay sa cabana.. sarap hangin..

A cabana by night

Each room (I think we got the DeLuxe Room) has 2 double beds and a daybed. Good enough for 5 people. This costs around PHP4,500-5,500.

This building is where our rooms were located

Facade of the casita

Sorry, I have no picture of the room.. so eto na lang..

Tsaka eto

There's a terrace, pang-hapi-hapi.. hehehe..

As for the food, they serve buffet meals for PHP1,000++ per person (1 lunch, 1 meryenda, 1 dinner then the breakfast the next day). The food is great and there was a wide array of varieties to choose from (some resorts that I already experienced staying in only offer maximum of 3 viands). They served from appetizers, main dish, desserts and drinks. Another thing that I liked about this resort is that they were generous enough to regularly fill in the food containers (di katulad ng iba na pag may naghanap lang tsaka lang irerefill)

Di naman ako masyado mukang harassed noh? Right after our "Alay Lakad"

This dining area is a wi-fi zone, only it was difficult to connect.

Pavilion/dining hall

The sand is not that white and fine, but much better than what you see in some other parts of Batangas. Like I said, San Juan offers the most decent beach resorts in Batangas.

Ako at ang aking mga alipores (ang manlait ng katawan ko tataba sinlaki ni Dabiana)

Some of the activities that you can enjoy while staying at Palm Beach are kayaking, jetskiing and riding a banana boat.

If you don’t want the beach anymore, you may take a dip in the infinity pool.

Or try the jacuzzi…

Our bodyguards

Palm Beach is good enough for me coz the place is serene and not that crowded even if it was a holiday. If you are the type of a traveler who doesn’t care much about the cost, this is great for you. The cost is worth it (not as classy as Acuatico, though). However, if you are on a tight budget, I guess this place is not for you. There are much cheaper but good resorts in San Juan.

Palm Beach Resort is located in Bo. Hugom, just after Bo. Laiya, in San Juan, Batangas.

PEOPLE OF MY YEAR (2009)

Posted by AC on Sunday Jan 24, 2010

I know this post is kinda late, still it’s better late than never, right? As a New Year entry, and like what I did last year, I’ll be posting the list of the people who have touched my life or in any way influenced my way of living or the way I think or feel.

My previous year may never be perfect, but I’m glad I never felt that extreme pain which almost took my sanity in 2008 anymore. That has to be one of the biggest blessings I have received last year. :)

Again, after mingling with thoughts coming in my head, I have finally come up with the list of the People of my 2009 and here they are:

MY FAMILY

Like I always say, friends and lovers may come and go.. but family will always be there. I’m glad we always stick together even physical separation doesn’t stop us from being close. As we mature, my sister and I become understanding and stop fighting a lot anymore. My younger brother became caring and sensitive of how I feel. My Mom and Dad finally realized that I am no longer a kid who needs curfew and restrictions. And there goes Mikee, our little angel who never fails to make me smile. :)

GOGOLOSH + DUCHESS

Need I say more? They have always been the subject of my blog entries and “photoshoots”. That’s how they mean to me. I’m just so happy that God gave me the best set of friends in the whole wide universe. They even give meaning to the word “family”.. and I love them for that. I always will. :)

CAPTAIN SID

Well, what else can I say.. even if everything was just short-lived (or perhaps didn’t mature due to vicious circumstances), I still thank you for bringing back the smile on my face even just for a short period of time. You had my 1st Quarter of 2009. We may have lost a lot of things because of our poor attempt at being romantically attached, but I know in my heart we tried our best to become really good friends. May you find peace and contentment that you truly need.

WORLD VISION & JOHN LISTER

I truly believe that every child has the right to be educated. However, not all Filipino families afford to send their children to school. Thanks to those Non-Profit Organizations that help people in need, just like World Vision where I found the joy of sponsorship. I started sponsoring John Lister around June of 2009 when a fellow blogger, Mark posted something about World Vision in his blog. Actually, I was really keen on joining World Vision as I wanted to help that won’t require much of my time. FYI, I have been delinquent member of Hands on Manila since college due to my forever tight schedule. I know I made the right decision when I chose World Vision, coz they not only send children to school.. they also help the community help themselves through livelihood programs.

NORTEHANON

Believe it or not — I have no idea about her real name, her age and her whole identity.. what I only know about her is that she’s from Northern Samar, hence, Nortehanon. But even how clueless I am of how she looks, I know in my heart she’s beautiful inside and out. It amazes me that there’s someone like her who genuinely helps less fortunate people even without going public (and when I say public it’s a lot like what most politicians do.. errr…). She inspires me to lend a hand to people in need. Eversince I “met” her, I’ve been actively supporting her advocacy, Pens of Hope. It’s a little project that aims to give pens (even other school supplies to children in Samar. Last I heard there’s another group in Davao that organized a POH “Chapter”). For more info about the project, click HERE.

B1 & B2 (NOEY & JOSH)

I just miss being with these two crazy girls. My angels in my previous job. We went through a lot in the corporate world but they always made each horrible experience a funny one. Best wishes, Josh.. and Goodluck on your career, Noey! I miss you both. :(

EMERIO

I have yet to know all of them as I’ve only been with the company for barely half a year but I’d like to believe I made the right decision when I decided to enter this company. It’s good to know that while they have a common goal — that is to achieve the team’s targets and help the company progress, they don’t forget how to have a good time. And yeah, so far I’m having a good time. It’s fun being with these guys.

GB LABRADOR

Who doesn’t love this balding giant? He’s everybody’s sweetheart. Too bad he doesn’t have a sweetheart to call his own. (Calling the attention of all the single ladies out there ;) ) He is the most patient, most caring and most optimistic person I have ever met. Come to think of this, he used to live in Provident Village in Marikina. They almost lost everything when Ondoy hit Metro Manila. But he didn’t give a damn.. he still managed to smile and have fun with us despite what happened. He always reaps treasure out of junk. Also, he always sees the good in every person, even the bad ones.. I’m one of those. And I love him for that. :)

THE COMICS

Thanks to my dear friend, GB, for introducing me to these people. They make my Tuesday and Friday nights pleasurable. Keep on making people laugh, guys! :) I support Pinoy Stand Up Comedy. :)

Our bond never ends during Open Mic Nights, it goes beyond drunken and crazy nights.

GB – the guy who made things possible. Thank you for dragging mo to your events.
Noel & Richie aka Dos Abogados
Chino, the hunk
Marcelle, the Magician
Ryan aka Hugh Jackman
Raffy, the Emo
Alex, the Headliner
Nace aka the Loverboy (hahaha! )

Not only did they give me free entertainment — I found good friends in them… and a lover, too. Hahaha!

[Shameless plug] Catch them: Mondays at Spicy Fingers – Greenbelt 2, Tuesdays at Alchemy – Silver City Ortigas, Wednesdays at Sidebar El Pueblo, Ortigas (though the bar’s undergoing renovation, the show’s gonna resume around March, I think. Also, we are still finding a place to be our haven, our next Ditzy Diner every Friday.) PM me for more details

TUESDAY CLUB

I met this gang late 2008, it was then The Thursday Club. We usually go to Alchemy together on a Thursday night, listen to En Masse’s jazz music then watch the comics perform. The club stopped operating for a while and when it opened again, our hang out night eventually changed, and so did the performers/program. En Masse found another place to perform at while its sessionist/vocalist Jessica brought her own band, Melo Manila and perform acoustic hits every Tuesday. Hence, we are now called the Tuesday Club. It’s great because we get to enjoy our weeknight without worrying about our work the following day. I guess the good company stops us from thinking about serious stuff like work.

FRIDAY CLUB (DITZY GANG)

An excerpt from my Facebook/Multiply Account:

I wasn’t keen on going to Ditzy Diner during its first few stand up comedy shows (despite GB’s being DEMANDING) since I found the area too far from where I work/live. After much requests (demands, actually) from him, I finally obliged. Together with my best buds, we watched the show. Good thing, we enjoyed the night (though we often see them at Alchemy, Ditzy’s ambiance is superb).. That was around March of last year, I guess. Since then, it became a routine for my friends and I — DITZY DINER OPEN MIC NIGHTS.

Not only did I enjoy the food, booze and entertainment there. It actually became a means for me to find new set of friends. Not just the superficial ones — but those who can get crazy with you yet you can share serious stuff with. In fact, I have come to realize that this place has been a very remarkable one, something that is etched in my heart. For life.

Thank you for the LOVE… as in LOOOOOVE! ? ? ?

I’m gonna miss you all! *sniff sniff*
(Awww.. ang CHEESY ko pala??!!)

For those of you who have seen my old posts, you’d surely realize how much this place means to me. This is where I celebrated my 25th Birthday while raising funds for street children; this is where we did a lot of charity events; this is where I made a lot of new friends, even the staff, crew and resident band became my friends; this is where my bestfriends and I hang out every Friday.. and most of all, this is where I found love. :) It’s kinda sad coz the diner is closing on the 30th, a new establishment is about to come out.

Thank you for being the best company: Lovely (teneeeeennnn!!!), Caca, Anne, Mel, Jimmy, Wal, Mae, Jaypee, JC, Benjie, Kyle, Kuya Glenn, Teddy.. Mark & Fritz, the resident band.. Jay-ar, Ditzy’s owner and his staff Reg, Claire and Jhigz.. :) My boy friends: Alex, David, Patrick, Robert… and a lot more. I hope I didn’t miss anyone. :)

DR. LOVE

Here goes the most special part of my 2009. The best gift I have ever received.

He came along when I almost gave up on love. As cliche as it may seem, but love hits you when you least expect it. :) He’s more than what I asked from God. He always goes beyond what is expected and just. When I met him I began to appreciate failure and heartaches in the past coz that’s when I realized something good’s bound to happen after every downfall — one perfect example is him. And his love that heals all wounds. I’m looking forward to a wonderful 2010 with him. :)

So there, I already shared the list of my people last year. I hope I didn’t miss anyone…

Happy 2010, my dear friends! :)

CHRISTMAS CELEB: VOL. 4 (HEAD OFFICE)

Posted by AC on Thursday Dec 31, 2009

Our company’s Christmas celebration didn’t end at our 60s-2000s inspired party at Strumms Makati, in fact we also had another party held at our Head Office in Ortigas.

There were lots of kiddos (my colleagues’ children and nephews/nieces). It was such a fun activity coz I really love kids (too bad I am not allowed to bring my nephew, Mikee, to parties like this.. his mom might kill me. Haha! ) I just enjoyed the day playing and taking pictures with the kids. If some of you remember, I was once practicing preschool teaching when I was still in school, but my career had to take another turn due to some personal reasons. You know, even if I love kids and I enjoy teaching there are still some things that I needed to bear (like almost playing a nanny to those kiddos, who, mostly don’t know bladder control yet) just so I can fulfill my dreams of becoming a teacher. It’s nice to take care of one, two, three kids… but when you say “class”, uh ohhh.. I think it was kinda traumatic for me. Hehe. :D Hence, I didn’t become a preschool teacher.

Okay, too much intro for this. Below are the photos of the kids taken from our Christmas party in the office.

Isn't she adorable? She's turning 3. :)

Want chocolates? :)

We celebrated not just Christmas, but also our Managing Director’s birthday, hence, the cake. :)

And after making our bellies bloated, we had the usual kris kringle… and lots of kulitan. :)

’til next year, colleagues! I had so much fun. :)

CHRISTMAS CELEB: VOL 2 (CORPORATE)

Posted by AC on Friday Dec 25, 2009

The theme was varied, from 60’s up to 2000’s. Our unit was supposed to wear 70’s outfit. However, I had no time to find clothes that will make me look like Cher or Donna Summer so I just opted to wear a uber short dress and had to put on stockings as per my bosses. Below are some of my pictures. I have my own theme, I don’t know what era inspired me. Halo-halo na.. hahaha! Forgive me, I don’t have talent when it comes to costume party. :D

CORPORATE SLAVES

Posted by AC on Saturday Sep 19, 2009

Facebook gives me the opportunity to check on my friends.. updates in their lives, what their activities are and so much more. “Messing up” with my friends’ wall is an everyday source of fun for me. Even when my schedule is hectic and I am swamped with work, I still catch up on their status and post nonsense comments. Haha! Aminin nyo man o hinde, kakaaliw manggulo maski walang kwenta nipopost. Source of intriga din.

But it’s kinda annoying whenever I see foul and uber serious posts as if my friends are subtly saying that they are “pinagbagsakan ng langit at lupa”. Yes, we are all entitled to be emotional once in a while.. but to rant about something which I think is pointless? Kinda infuriating.

I am talking about work. Our source of living. The reason why we still eat several times a day, why we are able to send our kids to school, why we can afford to buy things that we dream of having. One of the major reasons why we survive in this world of chaos and economic crisis.

A few days ago, I got a glimpse of a college friend who posts nothing but complaint about his work.. to the point of badmouthing his employer. I guess he’s not connected with his colleagues/boss on Facebook so he has the guts to post something bad about the world he gets his daily bread from. As in he posts about his work EVERYDAY. Walang palya.

When I was a newbie in the corporate world, I would also complain about how bad my boss was, or how underpaid I was, or how my salary didn’t match my responsibilities. After almost 5 years of working, here I am: still underpaid, still struggling to achieve what I thought was unreachable.. still thinking that my responsibilities are way beyond what’s justifiable for the amount of money that I receive monthly… and saddened by the fact that I always get sick and miss a lot of events and bonding moments with friends due to fatigue brought about by too much work.

But I couldn’t complain. I won’t complain. I’m getting old and I have come to realize that complaining won’t do me good. I must admit, before I was also a constant whiner. But changes do occur. And I began to comprehend that instead of showing crankiness, I should manage to reach my goals and do what my superiors and colleagues expect from me. By the way, I am a Technical Recruiter for an IT Consultancy Firm. Have you heard of this position? Do you have an idea about what my tasks are? I know a lot of people perceive us, Human Resources people, as persons who have an easy job, that we just sit and wait for our applicants to come and have them interviewed. It’s not like that. It’s absolutely wrong. I am doing the opposite — I am “headhunting”.. Imagine just how hard it is to recruit tons of IT people for a multinational company with a super tight budget. Mind you, IT people don’t apply.. we, recruiters are the ones to search for them in every way: Job portals, networks, poaching, etc. Name it, I do it. Recruitment doesn’t stop there.. I am also doing rate negotiations. Can you imagine how hard it is for me to convince a well-experienced UNIX Systems Administrator (people in the IT industry would understand this, but for those who are not familiar with the term I’ve used, please click: HERE) to accept a job that could only give him around 1x,xxx pesos a month? And I am not talking about 1 Systems Administrator.. I am talking about a lot. As in a lot.. as this is a continuous post in our company. Mind you, most people of this kind are no longer available in the country — they are scattered in other parts of the world.

Even networking (the process wherein I expand my network and do strange things to look for the right people for my requirements) is not an easy thing to do. There were some instances in my past jobs that even my personal life is kinda affected, like accumulating a lot of “suitors” and date invites (oo, totoo yun).. I had no choice but to endure all those, after all, trabaho lang.. walang personalan. Hindi ko na lang iniinda maski kadalasan iritang-irita na ko dahil ayaw ko sa tao as a PERSON, but I like his skills for my vacancies. I have to be professional at times even if sobrang naiirita na ako. I also had to deal with uber demanding clients.. na madalas may mga requests pa beyond what’s written in our contract. Ang sakit sa bangs diba?

I can’t be mad. After all, there is no easy job in the world. Imagine those working in toll gates of an expressway, do you think their job is easy? Don’t you think it’s kinda sad and boring to just stay inside a small cubicle for a couple of hours doing nothing but wait for motorists to come and give them their tickets and collect their payment? What about those sales people at the mall? Do you think it’s fun to stand (wearing high heeled shoes) there from the opening until the closing of the mall and chase after people while wishing that they will buy their products?

See.. nothing in this world is easy. Besides, a lot of people don’t have work. I am fortunate that I have a decent job that gives me money to buy gadgets to give away to thefts. Hehehehe.

Kidding aside, that friend of mine is kinda annoying. Even if I don’t intent to read his posts, I always see his name and status on my updates wall. Walang kawala diba?

My only advice for people who always whine about their work: If you don’t like it, if you’re not happy anymore — you are free to LEAVE. After all, there will always be a long line of applicants who would want to assume the position that you’d abandon.

Just be grateful. Thank the Lord for the gift of having a career. If you don’t have a career yet, start creating now by finding a job that would really make you HAPPY… if there is any. :)

We all work for the money, aren’t we? If you earn a lot and at the same time you are having fun at work, that is what I call — JACKPOT. ;)

*** PS: Sa mga gusto makikonek at makipagkulitan sa akin sa Facebook, just click on the badge here (sa right side, below the shoutbox) and feel free to add me up. Just put a note along with your invite, as I don’t accept “strangers”.. I have 85 pending friend requests so far. Hahahah! Feeling artista!

PREOCCUPIED

Posted by AC on Saturday Aug 22, 2009

I missed writing here. I missed putting my thoughts in here. I missed “talking” and sharing stories with my co-bloggers.

My long-time readers can attest that it’s unusual for me to let a day pass without writing an entry or two; but the past weeks have been toxic for me. Aside from the fact that I am addicted to Facebook (that I still manage to be updated even at work  ), a lot of activities and stuff have been keeping me busy.

This post is not an explanation of my absence from the blogosphere, it’s my way of sharing with you how my life is these days. :)

Bonding with the family. As I’ve said before, my dad came home from the States around last week of July. As a daughter who has never seen her dad for a long time, I opted to be with him and the rest of the family during our common free time. We went out of town, shopping, strolling, foodtripping and even simply staying at home talking to one another. I must admit, whenever I talk to him I’m still not at ease.. I couldn’t believe that I am no longer his baby girl and that it’s sometimes hard to share stories with him already. During my younger years I would talk about school and all those kiddie stuff; and now it amuses me that I am talking to him about politics, economy, current events and the likes. Haha! Now I think I’m getting old.

As always, he only stayed in the country for three weeks since he was just able to get a few days of leave from work. Last Thursday (August 20, 2009) he went back to the US, straight to his assignment in San Diego.

Not only did I spend time with my dad, but with the entire family as well. I think I need to maximize my time with them, now that I heard that my younger brother’s getting married and my mom is about to go back abroad soon and be with dad. I will be left alone here. Hahaha! *loser*

Back to being a Corporate Slave. A few weeks ago I started working for another company. Basically, the job is almost the same as what I have been doing for the past 4 years. The difference lies in the requirements that I am handling and the quantity of people that I always need to deploy. I’ve been working on the software facet of Information Technology, been doing headhunting and executive search and one-time placements. But now, I’m working for my company’s managed services which requires me to continuously fill in positions such as Systems and Network Administration (something that I’m not used to handle) for such a low low low low budget (hahahaah dugo sa ilong pramis!). My office hours now is 9AM-SAWA, yeah, it’s true. I’m no longer used to having a tight and hectic schedule since my job three years ago. My work prior to this one had no official working hours; I usually go to work at 10:30 or 11AM and I’d leave by 5 or 6PM, hence, my being active here in the blogosphere and in some social networking sites. I am still adjusting on my schedule; I really need to get used to sleeping early and waking up early.

It’s been a challenge, yet I find it helpful in making me a more responsible career woman.

AC, The Wedding Planner. My friends and IImage Hosted by ImageShack.us have been arranging the wedding of our barkada, who’s getting married next year. She got us for her OTD coordination; but we’re helping her all throughout (yun na gift namin sa kanya). Also, I was shocked when I saw my name on her list. I am responsible for STDs and invitations! Tsktsk.. wala na ko nagawa kundi umoo. Isa pang gift ko sa kanya. So nowadays, I’m busy drafting and conceptualizing STDs and formal invitation. Apart from doing the invites, I am also scouting for good but affordable fashion designer for her (suggestions please.. ). They spent much on catering and photographer/videographer that’s why I’ve been searching for a reasonably priced gown for her. I also help her in conceptualizing the theme and location for her prenuptial pictorials.

Sugar (leftmost, in pink) is getting married! The first ever Gogolosh wedding (well, Dane's first but she's already in the States when she got married) -- photo taken in 2007 at 77 Bar (Nheng's Birthday)

Not only am I arranging and conceptualizing my friend’s wedding.. my siblings also talked to me regarding their weddings. Yes, my SIBLINGS — my sister and my brother. My younger brother is getting married probably next year; and my sister is planning to have it SOON (she’s already married in civil rites, but her in-laws wanted them to get married in Catholic church)

At kapag ako na ang ikakasal meron pa kayang handang tumulong??? Hahaha!

Philanthropy at its finest. I think I need not elaborate much on this since I have already shared a lot photos from my volunteer activities. :) Let me just share with you my barkada’s cake when we celebrated our birthday at Jollibee. :)

Jollicake! :)

Fun-loving me. Even if I’ve been swamped with work and some volunteer activities, I don’t sacrifice my social life. I cannot stand not going out and enjoy the nights with my super friends. I am back to attending Open Mic Nights and planning to produce comedy shows with my friends in the near future. Actually, the first ever fruit of our production team was our fund raising event on my birthday. I hope soon we can already bring excellent and big shows to our friends and family. We even plan to have regular fund raising events for charity if our schedules will permit us to do so. :)

So, who says being busy entails just stress and pressure? I’ve got a life that’s full of pain-in-the-ass stuff to do, at the same time… FUN. Soooo much fun! :)

I hope you enjoy your life, too, people! :)
