MEET MY NEW FRIEND

Posted by AC on Tuesday Jun 16, 2009 Under Philanthropist

A few days ago, I received my sponsorship brochure along with the picture of my sponsored kid. I was so proud of myself I showed them to my mom (na nawiwirdohan sa kin nung isang araw na umuwi akong may bitbit na sandamakmak na lapis.. kulang na lang sabihin nya sa kin “maysakit ka?” )

Thank you, Mark for assisting me here. :) I hope it’s okay to post this picture here. :)

Meet John Lister, my new friend. I’ll be her Ate starting next month until forever… nyahahahah!

It has always been a dream for me to be an advocate of any Non-Profit Organization. When I graduated from college (I took up Sociology), I wanted to work for an NGO or be a preschool teacher. I took up a post-grad course in Education as part of my preparation. I have envisioned myself in the academe or at least be part of some volunteer teaching activities. And so, my friends and I signed up to be volunteers for Hands on Manila, another Non-Profit organization with wide array of activities to choose from. Unfortunately (for some reason), I wasn’t able to pursue what I have planned then. I got an offer from the corporate and as a fresh graduate, I was really excited that I grabbed the job without even thinking what really my dreams are. I let go of my teaching and advocacy plans. I established a career in the corporate world over the years, sadly though, I am not contented with what I’ve been doing.

Many trials in my life have occurred that made me think hard about my goals. About my purpose in this world. I’m fast approaching maturity, I guess… hahahaha!

Through this blog (which initially became just a place to breathe out my emotions and frustrations in my lovelife… harhar!) I met a lot of kindhearted people who became my friends and helped me make my dreams turn into a reality. Anyway, it’s never too late to go back to what I really wanted. :)

Through N’s Pens of Hope, I saw the reality that education is not just about tuition fees, school supplies is also an issue. And so, I support her advocacy.. it’s not just about sending out school supplies.. but also by introducing the project to our readers. Like what I am doing now. (For more info, click HERE)

In fact, I got a donor through this blog. ;)

Another dream come true for me is the reactivation of my membership with Hands on Manila. A few weeks ago I re-attended their volunteer program and signed up again along with my friends. I am still checking on my calendar for my free days though. Anyway, the good thing about HOM is that even when you’re doing “philanthropy”, you’ll still be able to develop and share your skills. Like for example, if you are into Arts and Crafts you may engage in such activities.. if you are a teacher, you can join tutorial lessons, etc etc. Di ba ang saya? :)   (To know more about HOM, please click HERE)

And the highlight of this post: World Vision. It’s been a dream for me to sponsor a child’s education (nasa list ko pa sya ng source of happiness), but I wasn’t really aware of some things like the cost, procedures, etc.. until I read Mark’s entry. Read it when you’re free.. it might help you get into sponsorship. ;)

Though joining Non-Profit groups like these give me a sense of inexplicable feeling (pramis, it would make you float.. and smile :) ), I don’t have plans of leaving the corporate world. Hindi naman kase ako mayaman, I still have to raise some dough, you know.. so that I can support my volunteer activities. ;)

Anyway, I am still helping a lot of people eventhough I am in the corporate, I help them find a job… and build a career. Oha..

    Hi AC…

Thank you for joining World Vision as a sponsor…
Finally, may sponsored child ka na rin… May you find this new role a privilege and a fulfilment… :D

Surely, the Lord will bless you in more ways than one…. :D

Btw, when I made my post, I checked with WV and they said okay lang daw i-post ang picture ng sponsored child but kailangan daw i-protect ng sponsor ang privacy ng bata kaya di pwedeng i-reveal ang full name, as well as other personal details and background… :D

  2. AC Says:

@CWW: ayan, okay lang naman picture and first name nya dba? di naman na nababasa yung ibang details kase super liit na. hahaha. di ko lang na-crop. pag sinipag ako i-crop maya, crop ko. ;) thank you. :)

  4. AC Says:

  7. N Says:

Didn’t I tell you that you are a girl of beauty and substance? ;)

    P.S.
May utang pa akong email sa ‘yo. I am not forgetting that. Been really, really busy eh.
I’m leaving this weekend for Samar. Wheeeee! But the distribution for Pens of Hope will be moved to 1st or 2nd week of July. The province has declared June 19 a holiday and the school personnels I have been talking to are hesitant to ask the children to go to school on a holiday. Pero tuloy pa rin ang uwi ko. Meron pa kasi akong ibang kailangang kausapin for the project.

Congrats also to your other friends for renewing your affiliation with Hands On Manila. Saang field kayo mag-volunteer? I hope they have Sunday programs na ngayon. Dati kasi halos lahat Saturday.

    God bless, iha.

ingat on your way to samar. goodluck sa distribution ng pens! ’til next time! :)

God bless your heart, your plans, and your family!

akina CV mo, hanap kita work… kaso ako din pala hanapan mo. nyahahahaha!

  11. ferna Says:

Wow! You really have a good heart. :) Gusto ko rin magvolunteer. But not yet. I don’t think I’m ready. Kudos to you kasi naumpisahan mo na ang isang napakagandang bagay.

  13. jeremiah Says:

nice naman! :D kaunti na lang kasi ang mga taong ganyan, yung nababasag ang puso nila ‘pag nakakakita ng may nangangailangan, at nakukumpleto naman kung nakakatulong sila..hehe..just keep it up..pero sana ako din magkaroon ng chance tumulong kahit sa Pens of Hope muna..’no? di ko pa kasi siguro kaya magsustain ng katulad ng sa’yo..newey, enjoy the rest of the week AC.. :D

  14. AC Says:

@jeremiah: yep, pens of hope is a great start. actually etong sa HOM hindi naman sya magastos tsaka hindi naman sya madalas. kapag may free time lang. pagdating sa world vision ayun di din naman ganun kamahal pero continuous kase sya so mejo may epekto nga sa wallet. hehehe. pero ok lang, para ka lang hindi gumimik ng isa o dalawang beses sa loob ng isang buwan. hehehe. :)

  15. Ü1 Says:

Hi Ms. Anna… pamper your heart ka din pla e..hehehe…joke.. anyway, me and my friends like those kinds of activities… you know teacher ako..hehehe …could you at least give me an information on how to join?hehehe kung pwede lang naman… thanks.

  16. Ü1 Says:

sa pens of hope pla yun…thanks…

  17. AC Says:

@u1: sige PM mo ko. hehehe. anong activities ba gusto mo? i can give you details. hehehe. :)

  18. josh Says:

    pagpapalain ka! ;)

  19. AC Says:

@Josh: ibang pagpapala gusto ko! hahaha!

  20. J.Kulisap Says:
