… and I’m proud of it.
For quite some time now, this blog has been my outlet to express how I really feel about engaging in some Non-Profit organizations here in the country. It is but expected that some people would see how I do as something to boost my ego or just simply bragging about how “helpful” I am.
But NO. This is my way of showing people how I feel about philanthropy.. and inspire them to be part of the cause.
A few days ago, I attended the first World Vision Donor Cafe in Ortigas. Right after work (actually I came late), I went to Shangri-La all by myself to attend the event. Too bad my friends were still at work so I wasn’t able to bring any of them. But given the chance, it would be better if they’d attend and hear the stories of volunteers, members of the administration, sponsors of this organization as when I was there watching a video shot in Africa, I couldn’t stop my tears from falling. The story is very heartwarming. Perhaps my friends will immediately sign up to be donors right after watching the video.
It was also amazing that there was one former sponsored kid in the event — now, he is already an HR Manager for one of the well-known and established companies in the country. When he shared his piece and sang for us, I couldn’t help but smile. I can’t wait to finally see my sponsored kid graduate from school and find a good job to help his family.
Not only did stories touch my heart when I went to the Cafe, I also learned a lot from the administrators. One of which is the organization itself. Yes, lots of Non-profit organizations are everywhere, and most of my friends often tell me “Baket jan ka pa nagdodonate, e andami na nila sponsors.. panay artista pa and public figures.” And yes, I thought about that, too. Why World Vision? Because I believe that every single peso that I donate would matter; not only the kid would benefit from it.. but the entire community where he belongs, as livelihood programs for the families are also part of World Vision’s program. It’s a well-established and structured organization that I will never worry whether my donations would go somewhere or not.
Along with this entry is the picture I took when I was writing my letter to my sponsored kid, John Lister. I attached a copy of my graduation photo, hoping that it would inspire him to do good in school and eventually have a graduation photo of his own.
“Help change the lives of our poor Filipino children. Sponsor a child today!”

@pickleminded: etong isang to not much time needed naman po. pwede mo sya itry.
o kaya naman if gusto mo interactive at kelangan ng presence mo, try mo sa Hands on Manila.. di naman kelangan ng madaming-madaming time. It’s up to you pa rin kung anong activity at diskarte gusto mong gawin.

pero seriously, I’m so proud of you…in a world where people are so full of themselves, you certainly shine a bright ray of hope

Seriously, the joy of giving is in the act itself… Giving is a privileged act because we are given the chance to be the heart of God…
Kaya, ipagpatuloy natin ito AC… At salamat also for taking the advocacy of inviting others to sponsor a child through World Vision…
Kahit na marami nang mayayaman ang tumutulong dun, hindi ibig sabihin na it will make our donations less valuable, for the value of what we give lies in the way we die to ourselves when we give our share…
And besides, all hands are needed, for there are still many kids who are out of school…

seriously, i think it’s the first in Ortigas area. yung prior to this event Makati area naman, last month yata. wait ka lang jan sa Cebu, baka malapit na. hehehe.
yes, madami naman pera ang mga artista kaya for sure barya lang sa kanila yung mga nasspend nila for NGOs. anyway, i gave the CDs and brochures of world vision to my friends, hoping that when they watch the videos, they’d sign up to be sponsors din hehehehe.
